Howloween HorrorFest

Horror film screenings! Horror-themed virtual reality games! Special effects makeup workshop and demo! Every Wednesday for the rest of October, the NCSU Libraries will be screening a different North Carolina-themed horror film, introduced by a student from Professor Adam Hart’s spring ENG 492 class, “The Horror Film." And before each one...a hands-on, horror-themed interactive experience! The screenings are free and open to the public. The films are rated R and may contain content not suitable for all audiences. Seating is limited, so plan to arrive early.

On October 11 at 6:00 p.m. in the D. H. Hill Jr. Library  VR Studio, join us for horror-themed virtual reality games.

Then head over to the D. H. Hill Jr. Library Auditorium for an 8:00 p.m. screening of  I Know What You Did Last Summer. This classic penned by Kevin Williamson depicts four friends who are being stalked by a killer, one year after covering up a car accident in which they were involved.

On October 18 at 8:00 p.m. in the D. H. Hill Jr. Library Auditorium, join us for a screening of Cabin Fever (2002) in which a group of college graduates rent a cabin in the woods and begin to fall victim to a flesh-eating virus.

On October 25 at 4:00 p.m. in the D. H. Hill Jr. Library Auditorium, come hear the accomplished special effects makeup artist Gregory FX (Gregory Hewitt) talk about the art of special effects makeup and its importance to the entertainment industry as well as other areas of professional service. During the talk, Hewitt will present a live makeup demo so you can see the transformation in front of your eyes! Hewitt owns the Charlotte-based company Gregory FX, which specializes in film, television, commercial, event, scenario and live performance makeup.

Then walk with us over to the D. H. Hill Jr. Library Fishbowl Forum where Gregory will lead an intensive, hands-on FX workshop. Participants will create and apply a prosthetic, and attendees will be able to take home all molds and appliances they create in the workshop. Attendees will be asked to sign a waiver prior to participation. Spots are limited to NC State students, faculty and staff, and pre-registration is required.

Then back to the D. H. Hill Jr. Library Auditorium for a 9:00 p.m. screening of The Descent. Six women become trapped in an unmapped cave system and are hunted by flesh-eating subterranean humanoids.
